DNV is one of few Certification Body that can deliver almost all GFSI Standards. Although all standards have the aim in common to ensure food safety, every single standard has it's own philosophy to handle with non conformities and has different certification rules. We give the food producers the choice which is the most suitable scheme for them. Also, if a company needs more than one scheme, DNV can deliver combined audit with mulit-qualified auditors. This saves time and money.


We also offer inhouse courses for all Standards. Other venues on request. This list will be updated on a regular basis.

GFSI food safety standards:

In May 2000, a group of international retailer CEOs identified the need to enhance food safety, ensure consumer protection and to strengthen consumer confidence. They proposed a programme which would set requirements for food safety schemes and improve cost efficiency throughout the food supply chain. Following their lead, CIES The Food Business Forum developed its food safety programmes to help food safety stakeholders work together towards: decreasing food safety scares and risks, providing better quality, products for consumers, enhancing transparency between all the links in the food chain.
Under the umbrella of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), 7 major retailers have come to a common acceptance of four GFSI benchmarked food safety schemes. The benchmarking work undertaken by the standard owners and other key stakeholders on four food safety schemes (
BRC, IFS, Dutch HACCP and SQF) has now reached a point of convergence.

IFS - International Food Standard

The International Food Standard (IFS) is developed for all type of retailers(all sizes of companies and shops, independent or not) and for wholesalers with similar activities (e.g. cash and carry). They all have to ensure the safety of their “own branded” products they sell. IFS helps to comply with all legal food safety requirements and gives a common and transparent standard to the all concerned suppliers as well as a concrete and strong answer to the high safety expectations of customers. Goal of IFS is a common internationally accepted audit standard by the food business in order to improve continuously food safety for the consumers. IFS also offers the IFS Logistics Standard to close the gap between food producers and retailers. Actual, 126 retailers world-wide are working with IFS. Over 15000 certification audits were performed until now.

SQF - 1000 & 2000

The SQF Institute is a Division established by the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) to manage the SQF Program. An FMI Advisory Board provides overall policy advice, guidance and direction to the SQF Institute. The SQF (Safe Quality Food) Program is a leading, global food safety and quality certification program and management system designed to meet the needs of buyers and suppliers worldwide.

BRC - Global Standard Food

The BRC Global Standards are a leading global safety and quality certification program used throughout the world by over 12,000 certificated suppliers in 90 countries through a network of over 80 accredited and BRC recognised Certification Bodies. The BRC Global Standards are widely used by suppliers to global retail industries in order to facilitate the standardisation of quality, safety, operational criteria and manufacturers’ fulfilment of legal obligations and help provide protection to the consumer.


SCV was founded in 2004 by the National Board of Experts (NBE) and her associated Certification Bodies. SCV acts as a governing body for the NAB who’s main focus is the development and maintenance of the Dutch certification system 'Requirements for an HACCP based Food Safety System'©, also known as Dutch HACCP.
